Q: I downloaded the Version 2.0 update and am having issues?
A: There are many possible concerns that can arise with the Version 2.0 update. The biggest is losing your personal data edits. If you do not follow the appropriate steps your data can be lost. When the program is first downloaded it is important that you allow the program to replace the previous version. In the windows version this is done automatically. In the Mac version after dragging the new version into the applications folder it may ask you if you would like to keep both versions, cancel, or replace. You must click replace in order for the merging process to run. Running two versions of the program at the same time can cause multiple errors and result in your data edits being lost. Make sure that after downloading and merging the program that you do not download the program and replace it a second time. The merging program only works for replacing the previous Version 1 with Version 2. If you attempt to replace Version 2 with Version 2 you will lose all of your personal data edits! Understanding the merging process: The merging process will compare the latin and common names of the herbs. If you have changed the latin and/or common name for that herb the merging process will simply create a duplicate of the herb leaving your information untouched. You will then need to compare the two herbs and move the new data (research, picture, clickable lactation, low dose, and pregnancy boxes) to your version of the herb information. This should be relatively uncommon as most will not have renamed the herbs. If the herb latin or common name is unchanged then the merging process will add the new data (research, picture, clickable lactation, low dose, and pregnancy boxes) to your existing data and will not make any changes to your many edits you may have added/removed. As part of the merging process any new herbs that you may have added will not be affected other than now having the ability to add your own research references, pictures, and clickable low dose, pregnancy, and lactation info. A: Most database usage questions can be answered by visiting our Tutorials page. Q: What if I am unable to download? A. This is a common issue and is often the result of your operating systems security settings. It can be fairly complicated as it may depend on your internet browser, your antivirus program, and/or your operating system. Below are some easy fixes to this issue: For Mac users: Go to “System Preferences” and click on “Security & Privacy.” Make sure that your settings are set to “Allow apps downloaded from anywhere.” You may have to click the lock icon at the bottom right corner and log in to enable these changes. If this does not solve the issue please contact us at info@bountifulherbs.net for further assistance. For PC users: If a window pops up that reads “Windows protected your PC,” click “More info.” Next click “Run anyway.” If this does not solve the issue please contact us at info@bountifulherbs.net for further assistance. If you are using Google Chrome and it says the program may be unsafe after downloading simply click the small arrow to the right of the download and then click "keep". After doing this you can click the program to install. If you happen to have Norton Antivirus it may remove the program right after you download it. We recommend turning Norton Download Intelligence off for 15 minutes by following these instructions https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-360/22.5.2.15/solutions/v23920640_ns_retail_en_us from Norton and then re-downloading and installing the program while it is off. Bountiful Herbs LLC is not responsible for your being able to download and install the program to your computer. This process is complicated and is dependent on multiple factors which are outside of our control. Our program does work If you have access to an IT department they can often resolve the concern as well. Q: How many computers can I download this software on for use? A: The free version of this software can be used on as many computers as you would like for personal use. The latest purchasable update can only be on two computers at a time. Q: I just purchased a new computer. Can I transfer the software from my old computer to my new computer? A: Yes. We recommend you follow the instructions on the tutorial page and transfer your info before deleting the software from your computer. Q: Where can I make suggestions for future updates? A: Please send any and all suggestions to info@bountifulherbs.net. We welcome your input! Be aware that updates happen infrequently as the program is currently free to all. A: We have no problems with anyone using the database. However, it should not be considered a replacement for a medical and/or herbal education. Please see our disclaimer and be aware that this program was created by professionals with professionals in mind. Q: Where did the information within the database originate? A: The botanical information contained within the database are a compiled mix of modern Western phytotherapy, Naturopathic botanical medicine, Native American plant medicine, Eclectic/ Physio-medicalist traditions, Oriental medicine, and Ayurvedic medicine traditions. It is common for herbalists to have disagreement regarding the specific use of plants as medicine which is why the database is completely editable. The core data is simply a starting place for one's consistent and often lifetime pursuit into the vast world of botanical medicine. Q: Will Bountiful Herbs provide software updates and will there be a further charge for them? A: Yes there will be updates. Once you have purchased or downloaded the program, you will receive emails informing you of any update that may be available for download. There are some exciting updates on the horizon even now. So stay tuned. Q: How do I interpret the pregnancy data within the monographs? A: The pregnancy data given in the monographs is based upon the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration Classification for Drugs in Pregnancy, as explained below: Category A Drugs which have been taken by a large number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age without any proven increase in the frequency of malformations or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the fetus having been observed. Category B1 Drugs which have been taken by only a limited number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age, without an increase in the frequency of malformation or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the human fetus having been observed. Studies in animals have not shown evidence of an increased occurrence of fetal damage. Category B2 Drugs which have been taken by only a limited number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age, without an increase in the frequency of malformation or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the human fetus having been observed. Studies in animals are inadequate or may be lacking, but available data show no evidence of an increased occurrence of fetal damage. Category B3 Drugs which have been taken by only a limited number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age, without an increase in the frequency of malformation or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the human fetus having been observed. Studies in animals have shown evidence of an increased occurrence of fetal damage, the significance of which is considered uncertain in humans. Category C Drugs which, owing to their pharmacological effects, have caused or may be suspected of causing, harmful effects on the human fetus or neonate without causing malformations. These effects may be reversible. Accompanying texts should be consulted for further details. Category D Drugs which have caused, are suspected to have caused or may be expected to cause, an increased incidence of human fetal malformations or irreversible damage. These drugs may also have adverse pharmacological effects. Accompanying texts should be consulted for further details. Category X Drugs which have such a high risk of causing permanent damage to the fetus that they should not be used in pregnancy or when there is a possibility of pregnancy. What does this mean? The Australian categorization system differs from the US FDA categorization. The categorization of medicines for use in pregnancy does not follow a hierarchical structure. • Human data are lacking or inadequate for drugs in the B1, B2 and B3 categories • Subcategorization of the B category is based on animal data • The allocation of a B category does not imply greater safety than a C category • Medicines in category D are not absolutely contraindicated during pregnancy (e.g. anticonvulsants) https://www.tga.gov.au/prescribing-medicines-pregnancy-database Q: How do I interpret the lactation data within the monographs? A: The lactation data given in the database is based upon the American Academy of Pediatrics published guidelines and classification system for drugs used in lactating women. The classification is as follows: ND: No data available C: Compatible with breast-feeding CC: Compatible with breast-feeding but use caution SD: Strongly discouraged in breast-feeding X: Contraindicated in breast-feeding These classifications are based on controlled studies in animals or humans and on data gathered from using the drugs in pregnant women. Most herbs fall into the category of ND. |
